Soft Cover, 380 pages, 3.75 x 6.25.
Item #1902

Here is a copy of the "Brauer und Mälzer Kalendar für Deutschland und Oesterreich Jahrgang 1890-1891," i.e. Brewer and Maltster Calendar for Germany and Austria, Year 1890-1891, published in Stuttgart, Germany. The volume is printed entirely in German. The editors of the volume are L. Aubry, director at the Station for Brewing in Munich; Carl Lintner, director at the Brewers' School in Weihenstephan; Julius Thausing, brewery director in Vienna; and M. Krandauer of the brewing school at Weihenstephen.

This particular copy was apparently bought and used by a brewer in the USA, as evidenced by a small book dealer's stamp pasted onto the front paper cover that reads, "C. A. Rohde Co., Books & Stationary, Milwaukee, Wis."

The cover states that this volume is "Zweiter Theil," i.e. Part Two. It appears that these German-Austrian calendars were issued in two parts: 1) the first part was likely a pocket calendar full of mostly blank form-pages allowing brewers to keep track of brew batches. 2) the second part was a pocket-sized collection of articles containing both indepth text and also quick-reference material. The second part also contained many pages of advertisements for brewery-related products.

This listing is for Part 2 only. It's Part 1 match is apparently long gone. This makes sense, since Part 1 would have become mostly useless once the year had ended and all its pages had been written-upon and used. Part 2, by contrast, would have retained its usefulness indefinitely.

In this 1890-1891 edition of Part 2, there are 200 pages of articles and charts, followed by another 180 pages of advertisements.

CONDITION: Good. Front and back paper covers are chipped around edges, but are firmly attached. First 5-6 pages appear to have been bug-eaten around edges. Otherwise, internal pages are mostly clean. Binding is strong.
