More about this image...
| Description: | Advertising poster from 1885 for George Ehret's Brewery in New York City. The lithograph features a girl holding up a glass of beer. Behind her is a tray full of beer glasses sitting atop a wooden beer barrel marked with the traditional five-point star, called a "brewer's star." In front of the girl is a goat, the symbol of bock beer. Below the girl, to the left, in very small letters, it is indicated that the subject is named "The Munich Beer Girl." Also in very small letters appear the words "Published by H. Schile, New York." |
Note: | During a portion of the mid- to late-1800s, the George Ehret Brewery was the largest-producing beer company in America. George Ehret died in 1927. After Prohibition, the large brewery complex, located on the upper east side of Manhattan, was absorbed by its next-door neighbor, the Jacob Ruppert brewery. |
