This gargantuan book was originally published in 1903, and is generally considered to be the most complete and comprehensive book ever published on brewing in America. In 1973, two independant entities both reprinted the book. This is the edition published by beer historians Will and Sonja Anderson. It is bound in a beautiful mock-leather case with gold-stamp printing on the spine. The book was originally put out by the publishers of Western Brewer Magazine (the predominant trade journal of the brewing industry prior to Prohibition) and was intended to be a complete historical record of brewing from 1800 to 1900. It contains historical writeups of virtually every American brewery in operation in 1903 (all 2,000 of them!), as well as detailed discussions of the evolution of brewing technology and equipment, social aspects, and economic issues. The book is illustrated with about 800 photos and illustrations. Simply stated, its got everything. Copies of this Anderson edition are extremely scarce, and have become highly sought-after in recent years.
